{"id":17,"date":"2012-05-24T00:54:22","date_gmt":"2012-05-24T00:54:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rilsleworkingpapers.wordpress.com\/?page_id=17"},"modified":"2026-04-16T16:32:32","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T07:32:32","slug":"submission-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/kuis.kandagaigo.ac.jp\/eli\/publications\/?page_id=17","title":{"rendered":"Submissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any current ELI member can submit a manuscript for the\u00a0<em>Literacies and Language Education: Research and Practice\u00a0<\/em>journal. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In particular, we welcome submissions in the following categories:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Action research<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> relevant to the ELI\/KUIS context<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teaching practices<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for people who want to share something that they\u2019re doing in their classroom that is relevant to the curriculum<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anything else related to research taking place in the KUIS\/ELI context<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Submission deadline<\/strong>: Such papers should be submitted by <strong>May 22nd, 2026<\/strong>\u00a0for inclusion in the next issue. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Publishing date<\/strong>: This issue will be published by the following Autumn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All papers should adhere to APA (7th edition) style formatting (except where we outline differences) and consist of between 2000 and 5000 words. For more information, please see the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/kuis.kandagaigo.ac.jp\/eli\/publications\/?page_id=59\">Formatting\u2019<\/a> tab.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Review Process<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the first step in the publication decision-making process, all submitted manuscripts will be internally peer reviewed and placed into one of two categories:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Acceptable for publication<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a short academic paper with little or no required revision. Acceptance will be criterion-based. Authors retain copyright over their work and are free to re-publish the paper elsewhere.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unacceptable for publication<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a short academic paper without substantial revision. Such papers will be returned to the authors with comments and suggestions for meeting the required criteria. Authors will be encouraged to re-submit their revised papers for reconsideration. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The aim of the editing team is to review submissions until they are of acceptable academic quality.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those judged to be of insufficient quality to meet the acceptance criteria prescribed for the general review process will be returned to the authors with comments and suggestions for revision and will not be published until the text is revised to acceptable academic standards. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Criteria for Full Publication<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0The manuscript meets the formatting (see tab) and length (1800 &#8211; 4000 words) requirements for submission to the\u00a0<em>Literacies and Language Education: Research and Practice\u00a0<\/em>journal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The manuscript details practice and\/or research in areas of work relevant to language education at Kanda University of International Studies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> For longer papers, the research design and\/or teaching description detailed in the manuscript are appropriate and successfully implemented to meet the explicit or implied aims of the author(s).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0The manuscript is written in English to a standard, in terms of style and organization, generally acceptable for an international academic audience.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Copyright and Plagiarism<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While\u00a0<em>Literacies and Language Education: Research and Practice<\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0allows its published manuscripts to be submitted elsewhere, some journals prohibit publication of texts published elsewhere. Regardless of our\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">journal<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> policy, it is recommended that authors check the rules of the journal where they intend to submit. Therefore, when seeking to publish\u00a0a\u00a0<em>Literacies and Language Education: Research and Practice<\/em><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">article in another forum, to avoid any suspicion of plagiarism, authors are advised to substantially and meaningfully develop the paper for the next publication, and then cite the original\u00a0<em>Literacies and Language Education: Research and Practice<\/em> article in the new work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Policy Regarding Use of Generative AI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This journal recognizes that the role of generative AI in academic research and writing is evolving. Our policy is that authors may use AI tools for specific tasks, such as information gathering, data analysis, paraphrasing, or textual editing, but not to generate the manuscript text itself. The final work must remain the intellectual creation of the author(s). In addition, authors must include an AI usage statement between the abstract and introduction indicating how generative AI was used in the writing process. The following is an example of such a statement:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Portions of this text were revised with the assistance of [AI Tool Name], used for language editing and grammar refinement.
