2018年6月~2019年1月、ロマン・パシュカ専任講師(日本研究所)による哲学ランチ(日本研究所主催)を開催しました。Since June 2018, the RIJS started organizing a new series of events for students: Philosophy Lunches. The idea behind this project was to create a forum where students can talk freely about philosophy, without feeling the pressure of being in a class or having to take an exam.
The lunches are organized once a month (from June to January), during the lunch break on Fridays. They are an informal venue where students read a short text from a Japanese philosopher and reflect on issues such as the notion of self, reality and imagination, time etc. Until now, we have read and discussed texts by thinkers such as Andō Shōeki, Nishida Kitarō, Hiromatsu Wataru, Miki Kiyoshi and others. The topic for each meeting is open to suggestions from students.
The main purpose of the Philosophy Lunches is to provide students with opportunities to read philosophical texts, to reflect on things and to think about the world around them. At the same time, the Philosophy Lunches represent a venue where researchers can reach out to students by talking about their research in a context different from the highly specialized academic conferences.
