{"id":997,"date":"2019-09-04T03:13:57","date_gmt":"2019-09-03T18:13:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kuis.kandagaigo.ac.jp\/rilae\/?page_id=997"},"modified":"2023-03-23T11:48:09","modified_gmt":"2023-03-23T02:48:09","slug":"course-1-communication-tools-and-protocol","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/kuis.kandagaigo.ac.jp\/rilae\/course-1-communication","title":{"rendered":"Communication tools and protocol"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Online classroom: Zoom\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants will attend the live lectures, communicate with the instructors by using the chat box, and video chat with classmates by using this platform.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pre and post-class communication: Padlet\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each week, discussion topics will be posted. Participants are required to participate in the online discussion by posting one new thoughtful post of at least 150 words, and at least one follow-up post to another participant\u2019s comment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Classroom announcements will be also posted on the course Padlet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Depending on the size of the classes, smaller groups might be created and\/or one participant may be nominated as discussion leader each week (established in advance).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Online communication protocols<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this course, you are expected to follow ethical standards for all your electronic communication. Basic netiquette (online etiquette) is described in <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.albion.com\/netiquette\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Albion\u2019s Core Rules of Netiquette.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><b>Effective Communication in the Online Classroom\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether you are new to online classrooms or have a lot of experience, we find that it is helpful to read some guidelines before starting the course. Please feel free to give us feedback on these or suggest others. The purpose of the guidelines is to make a comfortable and collegial environment for all participants.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Greet and welcome fellow participants and make them feel that they are part of the community and that their opinions and contributions are valuable.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Use supportive and encouraging language when interacting with others online.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Keep the topic of the discussion in mind and refrain from expressing personal opinions on matters that might offend or alienate others. It is normally best to avoid the topics of religion and politics (which are not relevant to this class).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Be open to hearing differences in opinions. Engage in debate positively and from a position of trying to understand people and their experiences in the world.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Bear in mind that people have different communication styles and come from different cultural backgrounds. Also, be forgiving, we all make mistakes and this is an important part of the learning experience,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Help to maintain an environment dedicated to learning and free from harassment of any kind.
