This measures 3 factors: 1) teachers having the courage to take risks in saying and doing what they think and feel is important; 2) teachers being reflective by admitting their mistakes and being willing to learn from criticism and from others who have different ideas from themselves; and 3) teachers having an internal sense of autonomy.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Sample questions:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Statement A represents the self-empowered statement. Statement B represents the non-self-empowered statement.<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A: I am satisfied with the internal feeling of accomplishment for a job well done.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">B: I look forward to receiving external rewards when I have done a good job. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Paid or free:\u00a0<\/b>Unknown.<\/p>\n<p><b>Reliability\/validity measures:\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although further research is needed on the SEI, the index appears to demonstrate sufficient internal consistency and factorial validity to suggest the promise of future use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reliability: \u03b1 = .77 for internal self-empowerment index (ISEI), \u03b1 = .84 for external self-empowerment index (ESEI), \u03b1 = .88 for total self-empowerment index <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Validity: Correlation between ISEI and ESEI was r=.64, indicating that the two components, to some degree, were measuring the same construct (self-empowerment). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Setting:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Faculty meetings<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Educational<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Stakeholder(s):<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Educational institutions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Type of measurement:\u00a0<\/b>Questionnaire<\/p>\n<p><b>Possible uses:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Educational instructor growth <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Ease of implementation:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moderate. Participants are allotted 5 points on a 1-5 point Likert scale for each item. Each item contains 2 statements, so participants must divide these 5 points between the two, using only whole numbers (ex. 2 and 3, 4 and 1). \u00a0<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">25 items (with 2 statements each), est. 25 min. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Advantages:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is uncommon to find questionnaires that measure the autonomy of teachers, so this may provide useful information.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Drawbacks:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-report<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Distributing 5 points between two statements on one item may be time-consuming. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Studies this has been used in: <\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Purpose:\u00a0To measure teachers\u2019 internal sense of autonomy and how teachers express their autonomy to others.
