Mindfulness is an open or receptive awareness of and attention to what is taking place in the present. The construct has been operationalized in dispositional terms by the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), a 15-item self-report instrument with a single factor. The scale has been validated in college, working adult, and cancer patient populations. A description of the scale and its validation can be found in Brown and Ryan (2003).<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Sample questions:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From trait version:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instructions: Below is a collection of statements about your everyday experience. Using the 1-6 scale below, please indicate how frequently or infrequently you currently have each experience. Please answer according to what really reflects your experience rather than what you think your experience should be. Factor analyses with undergraduate, community and nationally sampled adult, and adult cancer populations have confirmed a single factor scale structure (Brown &amp; Ryan, 2003; Carlson &amp; Brown, 2005). Internal consistency levels (Cronbach\u2019s alphas) generally range from .80 to .90.
